The Emporium at Portsmouth
After months of restoration The Emporium at Portsmouth opened the doors to its Antique Mall on November 1, 2002. This very typical mercantile building with mezzanine, built in 1899, has been lovingly restored to a period reminiscent of the 1900-1910 period and features a lovely Otis elevator installed in 1921. From tin ceiling tiles, exposed brickwork and vintage 1906 display cabinets, numerous efforts have been made to make your visit a delight.
With some 6,000 square feet of floor space on two restored public levels, The Emporium at Portsmouth is, with some 20 vendors, the largest Antique Mall in the area and features antiques, period furniture, fine art, collectibles, vinyl records, TEAC nostalgia phonographs and radios, period clothing, silver, china, fine glass and much, much more.
In recognition of the owners' efforts, The Emporium at Portsmouth's building was declared a "historic site" by the City of Portsmouth in 2002. In 2003, the Portsmouth Area Chamber of Commerce recognized The Emporium as the "Small Business of the Year" (New & Emerging Business Category) and also presented the owners a Chamber Award for Process Excellence "for encouraging competition." And, in 2004, the Huntington, West Virginia Herald-Dispatch named The Emporium at Portsmouth the "Best Place to Buy Antiques" in the Tri-State.
The goal of The Emporium at Portsmouth is to be not only a great place to shop but also a destination for those wanting to see an incredibly beautiful and restored site. The Emporium at Portsmouth, open 7 days a week, is located at 607 Chillicothe Street in downtown Portsmouth.
